San Francisco Airport Car Service, SUV Service & SFO Ground Transportation

About SFO. San Francisco International (SFO) is the Bay Area's largest airport and the seventh-busiest in the United States, located right on the bay between South San Francisco and Millbrae about 13 miles south of downtown SF. It has four terminals (Terminal 1 / Harvey Milk, Terminal 2, Terminal 3, and the International Terminal) connected by AirTrain and serves as a major United Airlines hub plus the West Coast's primary trans-Pacific gateway (China, Japan, Korea, India, Singapore, Australia, Southeast Asia). Airport Commuter has been the First Town Car at SFO since 1986 and our dispatch operates 24/7 from our nearby South San Francisco yard at 90 S Spruce Ave # K — we can frequently have a Black SUV or sedan curbside within minutes of a call, even without a reservation.

SFO to Bay Area drive times. SFO to downtown San Francisco is roughly 20–30 minutes via US-101 in light traffic, 35–50 minutes during commute. SFO to San Jose is 35–55 minutes via US-101 south. SFO to Oakland / East Bay is 25–45 minutes via the Bay Bridge. SFO to Wine Country (Napa / Sonoma) is 60–90 minutes via the Golden Gate or 80–110 minutes via I-580 / I-80 to the Carquinez. SFO to Monterey / Carmel is 2–2.5 hours via US-101 south + SR-1. We track flight status in real time before we leave the yard, so a curb pickup is timed to your real touchdown, baggage claim, and walk-out — not a stale published schedule.

What we handle at SFO. SFO is our home base. We handle daily Black SUV, sedan, and stretch limousine pickups for corporate executives, international arrivals, family groups (including large groups in the 6-passenger SUV stretches and Hummer), and the regular flow of trans-Pacific business and policy travelers. We also handle SFO-to-Yosemite, SFO-to-Lake Tahoe, SFO-to-Monterey, and SFO-to-Napa long-haul transfers; SFO-to-Stanford Hospital and SFO-to-UCSF medical transfers; SFO hotel-cluster transfers (Hyatt Regency SFO, Westin, Marriott Waterfront, Embassy Suites, Grand Hyatt at SFO); and cross-airport shuttles to OAK, SJC, and CCR (Buchanan / Concord) for connecting GA traffic. Our drivers know which terminal handles which carrier, which curbside lanes work for the SUV vs the stretch, and where to stage for an on-time pickup.

Same Black SUV / Sedan / stretch Hummer fleet, real-time flight tracking, CPUC TCP# 9225 / fully licensed and insured. Call +1-650-876-1777 — 24/7 dispatch, every day of the year.

SFO by the numbers. San Francisco International is the Bay Area's primary global gateway — about 54 million passengers a year across four terminals (1, 2, 3, and the International Terminal) connected by the AirTrain, ranking as the 13th-busiest airport in the United States, 13 miles south of downtown on the bayfront. We hold posted flat rates from every Bay Area city to and from SFO — no meter, no surge — with real-time flight tracking, curbside and baggage-claim meet-and-greet, and 24/7 dispatch built around early departures and late arrivals. Black SUVs, sedans, and Sprinters.

SFO ground transportation — your options. Travelers leaving San Francisco International choose among several forms of ground transportation: the AirTrain to BART for downtown SF and the East Bay; the curbside taxi queue; app-based rideshare from the designated SFO pickup zones on the Domestic Garage and International Terminal arrivals levels; scheduled shared shuttle vans; and pre-arranged private car and limo service. For anyone who values a fixed flat rate, a professional chauffeur, real-time flight tracking, and a vehicle waiting on arrival rather than a surge-priced wait, pre-booked private car service is the premium tier of SFO ground transportation — and the one we have specialized in since 1986. The Black SUV is our signature vehicle, which makes us the Bay Area's go-to San Francisco airport SUV service — the most-requested choice for premium SFO ground transportation.

San Francisco airport car service & limo service, done right. Our San Francisco airport car service covers every SFO terminal (1 / Harvey Milk, 2, 3, and the International Terminal) with Black SUVs and executive sedans, while our San Francisco airport limo service adds stretch limousines and Sprinter vans for groups, weddings, and special occasions. Either way you get the same posted flat rate, the same CPUC-licensed (TCP# 9225) and fully insured operation, the same 24/7 human dispatch, and the same curbside or baggage-claim meet-and-greet — booked in two minutes online or by phone at +1-650-876-1777.

San Francisco International (SFO) — At a Glance

Our home airport since 1986. Airport Commuter is based 4 miles south of SFO in South San Francisco — the closest dispatch base of any luxury limo operator serving the field. Below is everything you need to know about the airport itself.

54.5 million passengers/year
2025 traffic — up 4.3% from 52.3M in 2024 (prior peak 57.8M in 2019). One of the busiest airports in the United States.
~1,140 flights/day
About 416,000 aircraft operations a year (2025) — combined arrivals + departures. Busiest 6–10 AM and 4–8 PM.
4 runways (2 parallel pairs)
10L/28R + 10R/28L (east-west, 11,870 ft) and 1L/19R + 1R/19L (north-south). The 28L/28R pair is just 750 ft apart — famous for side-by-side landings until the FAA restricted them to staggered approaches in 2026 (see our FAQ below), which can add delays in fog or at peak times.
50+ airlines · United hub
More than 50 airlines fly nonstop to roughly 150 destinations in 35 countries. SFO is a major United hub and its primary transpacific gateway; Alaska Airlines also hubs here (Terminal 2).
Terminal map
Harvey Milk Terminal 1 — Southwest, Frontier, JetBlue, Spirit, Sun Country.
Terminal 2 — Alaska, American.
Terminal 3 — United domestic.
International Terminal (A & G) — All international + United international + Delta.
Notable facts
Publicly owned by the City & County of San Francisco — yet it sits in unincorporated San Mateo County, about 13 miles south of the city it belongs to, making it a rare municipal exclave. Opened 1927 as Mills Field. Hosts the SFO Museum — the only museum accredited by the American Alliance of Museums located inside an airport. Harvey Milk Terminal 1 (rebuild completed 2022) was the first US airport terminal named for an openly LGBTQ official. All-electric ground-service equipment goal by 2030. LEED Platinum terminals.

From a Cattle Pasture to a Global Gateway: The Story of SFO

Before it moved more than 54 million travelers a year, San Francisco International Airport was a cattle pasture. In the 1920s the bayfront land belonged to the estate of Darius Ogden Mills — a Gold Rush–era banker who founded the Bank of California and became one of the wealthiest men in the West. His ranch and grazing land gave the neighboring city of Millbrae its name (“Mills” + the Scottish brae, a hillside meadow), and a Millbrae neighborhood is still known as the Mills Estate today.

On March 15, 1927, the City of San Francisco leased 150 acres of that pasture from the Mills estate — and just eight weeks later, on May 7, 1927, dedicated a single 5,770-foot dirt runway as Mills Field Municipal Airport. That September, Charles Lindbergh touched down at the brand-new field in the Spirit of St. Louis, only months after his historic transatlantic flight. The city bought and expanded the land through the 1930s, renamed it San Francisco Airport in 1931, and added “International” after World War II as overseas routes took off.

From that lone dirt strip on Mr. Mills’ ranch, SFO grew into the Bay Area’s global gateway: four terminals, more than 50 airlines, nonstop flights to roughly 150 destinations in 35 countries, and over 1,100 flights a day. Airport Commuter has driven travelers to and from this field since 1986, from a base just four miles south in South San Francisco — so we don’t only know the terminals, the cell-phone lot, and the fastest way to your door. We know the ground it was built on.

SFO Airport Car Service FAQ

The company that started serving SFO in 1986 — straight answers.

How much does SFO car service cost?

Our SFO car service runs on published flat rates — for example, from $135 one-way in an executive sedan between SFO and downtown San Francisco or most of the Peninsula, $195 to Silicon Valley / San Jose, and $324 to Napa. Every rate is all-inclusive of taxes and fuel surcharge with no surge pricing (tolls extra); Black SUV and limo vehicles are a little higher. See the full list on our SFO flat-rate page.

What’s the difference between your SFO car service and SFO limo service?

Our SFO car service covers point-to-point airport transfers in an executive sedan or Black SUV at a flat rate — the everyday choice for business travelers, families, and airport runs. Our SFO limo service adds stretch limousines, the stretch Hummer, and Mercedes Sprinter vans for weddings, proms, group nights out, and corporate events. Same chauffeurs, same 24/7 dispatch, same transparent pricing either way.

How far in advance should I book my SFO airport car?

Book at least 4 hours in advance to guarantee vehicle assignment. Same-day bookings are subject to availability. Call 24/7 dispatch at +1-650-876-1777.

Do you serve OAK and SJC airports too?

Yes. Flat-rate Black SUV service between all three Bay Area airports — SFO, OAK, and SJC — plus cross-airport transfers, all under one dispatch.

Do you track my flight?

Yes. We monitor every booked flight in real time using FAA data. We adjust automatically for early arrivals, delays, cancellations, or reroutes at no extra charge.

How much free wait time do I get at SFO?

30 minutes of free wait time from the moment your plane arrives at the gate, included on every SFO pickup, domestic or international. International arrivals get extra grace during customs/immigration.

What happens if my flight is delayed or cancelled?

We monitor your flight and automatically adjust. Delays are handled at no extra charge. If your flight is cancelled and rebooked, call dispatch to reschedule with no change fee.

Which SFO terminals do you serve?

All four — Terminal 1 / Harvey Milk, Terminal 2, Terminal 3, and the International Terminal. Curbside pickup at every terminal. Our dispatcher will tell your driver which terminal door is closest to your arrival gate.

How long has Airport Commuter served SFO?

Since 1986 — the First Town Car at SFO. Family-owned and locally operated from South San Francisco. Many of our SFO clients have ridden with us for 20+ years.

When was SFO built — and was it really a cattle ranch?

Yes. SFO opened May 7, 1927 as Mills Field Municipal Airport, on 150 acres of cattle-grazing land leased from the estate of Gold Rush banker Darius Ogden Mills — the namesake of nearby Millbrae, where a neighborhood is still called the Mills Estate. From that lone dirt runway it grew into the Bay Area’s global gateway. We’ve served the airport since 1986.

Did SFO restrict its parallel landings — and could that delay my flight?

Yes. SFO was long famous for simultaneous side-by-side landings on its closely spaced parallel runways (28L and 28R, just 750 feet apart). In 2026, after the January 2025 midair collision near Washington’s Reagan National Airport, the FAA tightened separation and SFO moved to staggered approaches, cutting peak arrivals from about 54 to 36 per hour. That raises the odds of a delay — especially in fog or at busy times — which is exactly why we track every flight in real time and adjust your pickup automatically, at no extra charge. For how much extra buffer to plan on, see our guide on how early to arrive at SFO.

How much luggage fits in your vehicles?

Plenty — just tell us your passenger and bag count when you book and we’ll send the right vehicle. As a guide: our executive sedans carry up to 3 passengers with 2–3 large suitcases; Black SUVs (Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Suburban, Lincoln Navigator) seat up to 6 with room for 5–6 large bags (a few fewer at full passenger load); and Mercedes Sprinter vans seat up to 14 with space for everyone’s luggage, golf clubs, or ski gear. Traveling heavy? Mention it and we’ll upsize the vehicle — no guesswork at the curb.
