Race kicks off 8:00am at Howard Street + The Embarcadero (the Ferry Building area). Total elapsed time for back-of-pack costumed participants: 2-4 hours. Rolling street closures from 6am through ~noon along the full route.
Ferry Building area, SF Bay waterfront. Iconic tortilla-throw tradition at the start (legal since 2012 when SFPD relaxed rules). 6:30-7:45am corral assignments + runner check-in.
Between Divisadero + Steiner Streets along Hayes Street. The famous steep half-mile climb — spectators line the sidewalks with cowbells + signs. Most photogenic spectator point on the course.
The race passes north of Alamo Square Park with the iconic Painted Ladies Victorians backdrop. Major spectator + photo position.
Race enters Golden Gate Park via the Panhandle, then crosses the park on JFK Drive + park-loop roads. Multiple spectator viewing points along the park.
Race exits Golden Gate Park near 9th Avenue + Lincoln Way. Spectator brunch venues along 9th Avenue (Marnee Thai, Park Chow, Crepevine).
Ocean Beach finish at Great Highway + Lincoln Way. Bay to Breakers Festival runs 10am-2pm at the finish area with food trucks + sponsor activations + music.
6:00am: Hotel pickup with runner + family. Drop runner at Embarcadero start area (Mission Street + Embarcadero, before 6:30am closures).
6:30-8:00am: Family pickup at hotel for breakfast at nearby café (Sears Fine Foods, Café Réveille, Sightglass Coffee).
9:00am: Drop family at Hayes Hill viewing position (Pierce + Hayes Street). Cheer + photo as runner passes ~9:15-9:45am depending on pace.
10:00am: Transfer family to Alamo Square (Steiner + Hayes intersection) for Painted Ladies backdrop photo.
10:30am: Transfer family to Ocean Beach finish line area (Lincoln Way + 25th-30th Avenues — cross-streets that re-open earlier than Great Highway). Park on cross-street + walk family in.
11:00-11:30am: Runner finishes. Reunion at Ocean Beach Festival area.
12:00pm: Family + runner pickup at Lincoln Way + 25th Avenue (or 30th Avenue if Lincoln still closed). Transfer to brunch venue (downtown SoMa for ZBC pattern, Hayes Valley for Hayes-Hill spectators, Inner Sunset Park Chow for finish-line cluster).
2:00pm: Brunch wraps. Return to hotel.

9th + Hayes + Fell + JFK Drive close in sequence as the race front-runners progress. Spectator drops via cross-streets that haven't yet closed (Pierce + Hayes for Hayes Hill, Divisadero + Hayes for Alamo Square approach).
Great Highway + Lincoln Way closed for finish line + Festival. Cross-street pickups at Lincoln Way + 25th-30th Avenues (re-open earlier than Great Highway itself). MUNI Metro N-line at 19th + Judah accessible.
Streets re-open eastward (Great Highway first, then JFK Drive, then Hayes Street, then Embarcadero). By 2pm full reopening. We coordinate post-race brunch transfers + return to hotels using the earliest-reopened routes.
