John Muir Health — Walnut Creek Medical Center (1601 Ygnacio Valley Road) is the region's flagship hospital — Level II trauma, the East Bay's primary trauma center east of the Caldecott Tunnel, and consistently one of the highest-rated hospitals in California for cardiac, orthopedic, and neurological care. John Muir Health Concord Medical Center is 10 minutes north. Kaiser Permanente Walnut Creek (Pleasant Hill border) is 5 minutes west. UCSF is 45 minutes west for specialty care. Local dispatcher tip. The Caldecott Tunnel westbound (Highway 24) is Walnut Creek's signature commute bottleneck — Monday-Thursday 6:30-9 AM adds 25-40 minutes, 4-7 PM eastbound adds 30-50. For pre-7 AM SFO runs we leave Walnut Creek before 6 AM. Bay Bridge westbound is the second factor — Warriors and Giants home games or any SF event can back up 101 / 80 approach for an additional 20-30 minutes.
