About Our Petaluma Black SUV Car Service

About Us

Airport Commuter has been running SAFE, DEPENDABLE Black SUV car service for Petaluma residents since 1986. SFO is 55-70 minutes, OAK is 55-65 minutes, SJC is 90-105 minutes. Flat rates on every combination. Petaluma is the North Bay's most architecturally intact 19th-century downtown, a growing bedroom community for San Francisco and Marin commuters, and the historic center of California's poultry industry — and we handle steady airport transfer volume for all three populations.

About Petaluma. Petaluma (population ~60,000, incorporated 1858 — one of the earliest chartered cities in California) sits along the Petaluma River in southern Sonoma County, 40 miles north of San Francisco. The city is famous for two very different things: the most intact downtown of 19th-century Iron Front commercial architecture on the West Coast, and its century-long history as the "Egg Basket of the World" — from the 1880s through mid-20th century, Petaluma-area farms produced enough eggs to feed much of the American West. Today Petaluma is best known as a movie set: American Graffiti, Peggy Sue Got Married, Pleasantville, Basic Instinct, Lolita (1997), Explorers, and Howard the Duck were all filmed here because the downtown looks like a perfectly preserved mid-century California town.

Landmarks our drivers know. Historic Downtown Petaluma (Kentucky Street, Western Avenue, Petaluma Boulevard — the Iron Front architectural district), the Petaluma River Turning Basin and riverwalk, McNear's Mystic Theatre (1911 vaudeville house, now a premier live-music venue), Lagunitas Brewing Company headquarters (the TapRoom on McDowell Boulevard is a signature stop), Petaluma Adobe State Historic Park (1836 Rancho Petaluma — the largest adobe building in Northern California, once the center of General Mariano Vallejo's 66,000-acre rancho), the Petaluma Historical Library & Museum, and The Great Petaluma Mill (1870 historic feed mill now a shopping arcade). Our drivers know the shortest routes to all of downtown, Lakeville Highway, and the Old East Petaluma residential pocket.

Schools. Petaluma's high schools include Petaluma High School (founded 1874 — one of the oldest public high schools in California), Casa Grande High School, and the private St. Vincent de Paul High School (Catholic, 9-12). The Petaluma City Schools K-8 district and Old Adobe Union School District cover elementary and middle grades. Santa Rosa Junior College Petaluma Campus is a signature community college site. Sonoma State University (the only CSU in wine country) is 20 minutes north in neighboring Rohnert Park.

Hospitals. Petaluma Valley Hospital (Providence Health, on North McDowell) is the city's in-town hospital — full-service acute care, emergency department, maternity, and surgical services. Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital is 20 minutes north. Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital (Providence, Level II trauma) is 25 minutes north. For specialty care, MarinHealth (Greenbrae) is 25 minutes south, Kaiser San Rafael is 30 minutes south, and UCSF / Stanford are 60-75 minutes south. We handle regular medical-transport accounts to all of these.

Parks and nature. Petaluma Adobe State Historic Park (50 acres, with the historic adobe and sweeping views of Petaluma), Shollenberger Park (165 acres of salt-marsh wetlands on the Petaluma River with the Bay Trail), Helen Putnam Regional Park (216 acres of oak woodland and hillside trails just southwest of downtown), Lucchesi Park (the central city park with the Petaluma Community Center), and McNear Park. Nearby: Point Reyes National Seashore (45 minutes west), Bodega Bay (30 minutes west), and Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve (40 minutes northwest).

Neighborhoods we serve throughout Petaluma. Historic Downtown / West Petaluma (Oak Hill, Kentucky Street, Western Avenue corridor), East Petaluma, North Petaluma (the Old Adobe area, McDowell Boulevard corridor), South Petaluma, Westside / Mountain View, Sunnyslope, Penngrove border, Liberty Road corridor, Lakeville Highway corridor (toward the wetlands and the bay), and the newer Petaluma East / Adobe Creek developments.

Airport drive times from Petaluma. SFO: 55-70 minutes (45 miles, via 101 + Golden Gate Bridge south). OAK: 55-65 minutes (52 miles, via Richmond/San Rafael Bridge + 580). SJC: 90-105 minutes (85 miles). Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport (STS) is 30 minutes north in Santa Rosa for Alaska/Avelo direct flights (we run to STS as an SFO alternative on some flights).

Local dispatcher tip. Petaluma's airport-run bottleneck is 101 through San Rafael and across the Golden Gate Bridge southbound — any weekday morning between 7-10 AM adds 30-45 minutes. For early-morning SFO flights out of Petaluma we leave earlier than Google suggests and route down through the Richmond/San Rafael Bridge + San Mateo Bridge when the Golden Gate is bad. The Petaluma Butter & Egg Days parade (late April) and the Sonoma-Marin Fair (mid-June) both affect downtown traffic significantly — we avoid Petaluma Boulevard during those events.

Beyond airport transfers, we run Petaluma Valley Hospital medical transports, Sonoma State University events and commencement, Petaluma Adobe weddings, McNear's Mystic Theatre concert transport, Lagunitas Brewing tours, Russian River / Dry Creek / Sonoma / Napa wine-country day trips, Point Reyes and Bodega Bay coastal tours, Butter & Egg Days parade transport, and corporate black-car accounts. 24/7 dispatch. Executive Black SUVs, stretch limos, Sprinters. Since 1986.
