About Los Gatos. Los Gatos (population ~33,000, incorporated 1887 — one of the earliest incorporations in Santa Clara County) sits at the southern gateway to Silicon Valley, where Highway 17 climbs over the Santa Cruz Mountains toward the coast. The city's name ("The Cats" in Spanish) comes from the El Rancho Rinconada de Los Gatos mountain-lion population of the 1800s. Los Gatos is known for extraordinarily wealthy residential pockets (Forbes regularly ranks the 95030 ZIP among the nation's wealthiest), an intact Victorian downtown, and the fact that the headquarters of Netflix has anchored the city's tech identity for two decades.

Landmarks our drivers know. Netflix corporate headquarters (100 Winchester Circle — the iconic Netflix campus off Winchester and Lark), Historic Downtown Los Gatos (Santa Cruz Avenue and Main Street — boutiques, bakeries, the Los Gatos Roasting Company, Nick's on Main, The Bacon and Butter, etc.), the Forbes Mill Museum (the 1854 flour-mill building turned history museum), the Toll House Hotel downtown, the NUMU Los Gatos art museum, and the Montalvo / Mountain Winery concert venue up the hill (technically Saratoga, but Los Gatos is the closest access). Los Gatos High School is consistently ranked among the top 25 public high schools in California — a California Distinguished School and National Blue Ribbon School. Fisher Middle School and the K-5 elementaries feed into it. Private options include the highly regarded Hillbrook School (JK-8 independent school on a wooded 13-acre campus), Saint Mary's Los Gatos (Catholic K-8), and Stratford School. West Valley College, Santa Clara University, and San Jose State are all within a short drive.

Hospitals. El Camino Hospital Los Gatos (Samaritan Drive) is the city's primary hospital — a full-service community hospital with a strong reputation for orthopedics, maternity, and surgical care. Good Samaritan Hospital (adjacent in San Jose) is 5 minutes north — the larger full-service hospital serving the Los Gatos / West Valley corridor with Level II trauma, cardiac, and neuroscience. Stanford Hospital is 30 minutes north via 85 + 280. We handle recurring medical-appointment transport to all three.

Parks and nature. Vasona Lake County Park (151 acres with the lake, paddle-boat rentals, and miles of paths), Oak Meadow Park (featuring the charming Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad — a miniature 18-inch gauge ride-on train that's been a Los Gatos institution since 1970), Los Gatos Creek Trail (the 9.7-mile paved trail from Lexington Reservoir through town to San Jose), St. Joseph's Hill Open Space Preserve, Lexington Reservoir County Park, and Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve. The Santa Cruz Mountains begin right at the town's edge.

Airport drive times from Los Gatos. SJC: 15-20 minutes (10 miles, via 17 + 280 or 85). SFO: 35-45 minutes (38 miles, via 85 or 17 + 280 north). OAK: 50-60 minutes (40 miles, via 880). If you're headed to Monterey/Carmel instead, Los Gatos is 55 minutes via Highway 17 + 1.

Local dispatcher tip. Highway 17 over the Santa Cruz Mountains can go from smooth to stopped in minutes — rain and fog close lanes fast, and any accident on the hill backs up 17 for 30-45 minutes. For airport runs from the Los Gatos foothills we watch 511 and pre-route through 85 if 17 is compromised. Downtown Los Gatos (Santa Cruz Avenue) gets packed during the Fiesta de Artes, the Jazz on the Plazz summer concerts, and every Friday/Saturday dinner rush — we stage at the Civic Center lot on Main Street rather than trying to pull up curbside.
