Federal Limousine Service Regulations
The US Department of Transportation government has a minimum set of requirements for those operating limo service (private, chauffered transportation) within the United States. Individual states may impose stricter regulations. The minimum requirements include the following:

For vehicles carrying up to 8 passengers, including the driver:
- Company must be properly registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and have a Motor Carrier Identification Report valid with the US Department of Transportation (USDOT) within the past two years.
- Each vehicle must also be insured up to a federally-regulated minimum level of financial responsibility in the event of accident.

For vehicles carrying 9 to 15 passengers, including the driver:
- All of the regulations for vehicles carrying up to 8 passengers apply (see above).
- Driver may not drive more than a maximum number of consecutive hours (10 hours in most cases).
- Driver must perform a vehicle safety inspection and sign a vehicle maintenance log before each trip.
- Driver must have a current, valid state driver's license and a list of any violations on file with the company.
- All vehicles must be marked with a USDOT registration number.
- Company must maintain an accident register dating back at least 3 years.

For vehicles carrying up to 8 passengers, including the driver:
- All of the regulations for vehicles carrying 1 to 15 passengers (see above).
- Driver must have a minimum Class "C" state driver's license with passenger endorsement.
- Driver must undergo drug and alcohol testing prior to employment, and may also undergo random testing.
